BLADDER INFECTIONS IN OLDER DOGS

Woof everypups, cats and hamsters, Desert Pup's Mom here. I know this is probably going to embarrass Scuba a bit, discussing this during her birthday party, but I was wondering if anyone has a dog that gets frequent bladder infections? The older Scuba gets the more bladder infections she gets. The Doggie Doctor prescribes Clavomox and that usually takes care of it for awhile but then the infection seems to always come back. I've tried different diets but Scuba is turning out to be quite the finicky eater in her golden years. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
pee-ess: we're still working on the party photos and will post them as soon as possible.

Happiest belated barkday wishies ever!

And we're sooooooooo glad that Toby is feeling better too!!!!!

Can't wait to see ya at the Halloween Pawty!!!!!!!!!

Hmm...as for the recurrent bladder infection...are they doing a culture on his pee after he finishes the antibiotics?? He may have a low grade infection in there where the symptoms go away, but the bacteria is still present. Seems like his pee needs to be more acidic too...but ya have to watch with older pups cuz high levels of acid can cause some kinds of stones...sorta a catch 22...I guess ya have to make sure the infection is really and truly GONE!

Love and kissies...

sometimes when i, Brody, or Baxter get these pesky skin infections from allergies, the vet makes us takes clavamox for a really long time - like 6 weeks. that seems to knock the infection out totally. but that's all we know.

we can't wait to see more party pictures. it's such fun to party with you kiddos!

woofs.

My mom had a saint bernard that got lots of bladder infections and our vert told her to give her some sort of cranberry thing eery day. I don't think it was juice, but I can't remember for sure what it ws. It seems like it was a vitamin of some sort that my mom bought at the health foods store and put it in her food at night. I wish I could remember what it was, all I can remember is it was cranberry with dinner every night. Hope that helped a little bit.

Seems like they should try to get a sample to see what's up. See if it's concentrated, ph,if she has bladder gravel, bacteria present, wbc, rbc...sorry mom got carried away. But that could tell you better what to do.....

I'm sorry to hear that Scuba is have trouble.

Out of all the health issues that I have had to deal with in my dogs, I have not had that one.

We will keep our paws crossed that you will find something new to help Scuba.

Poor Scuba. Does she drink enough? Maybe she doesn't get the antibiotic long enough. Maybe it isn't the right antibiotic. Sometimes we check the Merck Vet Manual for info.
Can't wait to see the pictures.

The pug who came before, Bridget, had that a lot in her older years. So mom knows what you mean. As for prevention, she's not sure what to tell you.
